You are a licensed exterminator. The client has a fly. You have a gun.

Every job comes as a case file: who called, what's buzzing, what's at risk in the room and the client always has requests. Clear the room inside the time, don't touch the jukebox, keep it under six rounds, leave the sculpture alone (it's on loan).

Then the invoice arrives. The fee, the bonuses you earned and every glass, decanter, chandelier and cabinet door your bullets went through. A clean job is stamped S · SURGICAL. A messy one is billed.

What's in it

• Five cases on file — a rented kitchen, a penthouse forty-one floors up, a manor in Gloucestershire, a two-star chef's galley, a film star's 1950s diner in Malibu. Twenty more are filed. Classified.
• Real ballistics — seven guns from a revolver to an air rifle, rounds that drop, ricochet and punch through the furniture.
• Almost everything breaks — and is priced. A wine glass is $45 in a rental and $110 in the penthouse.
• Flies with personalities — quick ones, skittish ones, twins, bluebottles, mosquitoes, the Queen. They land, they sit, they bolt when you fire.
• Close calls replayed — miss by a centimetre and watch the round crawl past in black and white.
• The Specimen Register — every species you catch, pinned and catalogued.
• Five difficulties, from Easy (swarms, they linger) to Hell (one fly, it never lands).
